Hussey Hits Second Century Of The Series

Colombo, September 17: Mike Hussey hit his second century of the series to lead Australia to a first innings score of 316 on the second day of the third and final test against Sri Lanka on Saturday. Seam bowler Shaminda Eranga led a spirited Sri Lankan attack by taking four wickets and bagging the last five Australia wickets for 81 runs in the opening session. Eranga returned Sri Lanka’s best bowling figures of 4-65. Sri Lanka batted for 12 minutes before lunch, scoring nine without loss. Australia resumed the second day on 235-5, with Hussey batting on 63 with Brad Haddin on 21. But Eranga quickly put the pressure on the visitors with the fifth ball of his first over of the day when Haddin was caught behind by Prasanna Jayawardene for 35 runs. Cardiff, Sept 17: World champions India dropped to the fifth position in the Reliance ICC ODI Championship table after England won the five-match ODI series 3-0 here Friday. It is Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side’s lowest ranking since October 2008, when it spent three months at the number-five position, to sum up a disappointing summer in England where it slipped from number-one position in the ICC Test Championship to third spot after losing all the four Tests. India had entered the series in third position on 117 ratings points and finished on 112 ratings points after it lost the second, third and fifth ODIs while the first ODI at Chester-le-Street was washed out and the fourth at Lord’s ended in a tie. Dubai: India continued to dominate the ICC Test Championship table, holding on to the top spot in the latest rankings issued on Friday despite losing a rating point after the drawn three-match series against South Africa. India lead South Africa by 11 ratings with 128 ratings points, the ICC said in a statement. Third-placed England have narrowed the gap with South Africa after winning the Ashes 3-1. England, which entered the Ashes series on 112 ratings points, have jumped to 115 ratings points and Andrew Strauss's side now trails Graeme Smith's men by just two ratings points. The Proteas, which started against India on 116 ratings points, have gained one ratings point and moved to 117 ratings points following the one-all draw against India. For Australia, the news is not so good and their first Ashes defeat in 24 years on home soil has resulted in a drop to fifth on the table.
